Arriving prepared means you can get straight on the water and start enjoying your day. Here is a simple packing list for your Wallis Lake boat hire — whether you are on a BBQ pontoon or a runabout.
The essentials. Sunscreen (high SPF — the lake reflects a lot of light, so protect your skin — just make sure you read the ingredients before slapping it on your skin of course), a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses with UV protection. These are non-negotiable on a long day outdoors.
Food and drinks. You are welcome to bring your own food and beverages. If you are on a BBQ boat, we supply the Weber BBQ, gas and cooking utensils — you bring the ingredients, plus your own plates and cutlery. If you are on a runabout, there is no BBQ on board, so pack a picnic or snacks that are ready to eat. Either way, bring plenty of water as well as any other drinks. An esky with ice keeps everything cold.
Forgot your lunch? No stress — Lakeside Takeaway is right across the road from us on Little Street. They do burgers, fish and chips, hot dogs, cold drinks and all the classic takeaway fare. Perfect if you forgot to pack lunch or just want an easy feed before you head out on the water. You can check their menu and opening hours on their Facebook page or call them on 0477 608 452 for a pickup order.
Clothing. Light summer clothes are ideal. Bring a light jacket or long sleeve if you're hiring in the morning or into the evening — it can get cool on the water. Swimwear for swimming.
Footwear. Non-slip footwear is best on deck — thongs or rubber-soled sandals are perfect. Avoid shoes with dark soles that can mark the deck.
Camera or phone. Wallis Lake is genuinely beautiful. Bring something to photograph with. A waterproof case or bag for your phone is a good idea.
What we supply. All safety gear, life jackets (children's sizes available), fuel, safety briefing, and a fishing and cruising map. On our BBQ boats we also supply a Weber BBQ, gas and cooking utensils, plus a Bluetooth stereo for your playlist. We do not supply plates or cutlery — please bring your own. Runabouts do not have a BBQ or stereo on board — so bring your own food and a portable speaker if you want music.
What not to bring. Please do not bring glass near the water — use plastic or aluminium containers for drinks. If you're unsure about anything, just give us a call on 0488 879 818.
